Kat Dennings is one cool chick. Not only is she a fab actress, but Kat (who stars in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) is someone we'd for sure hang with in real life. Our imaginary play date would obviously need a soundtrack, so we asked Kat for some of fave songs for every occasion (including roller-skating!). It's no surprise that she'd have great taste in tunes -- her first CD was by David Bowie! "I think it was [my mom's] CD and I took it, but it was after I saw Labyrinth," she says. "He was my first crush, so I kind of became obsessed and just got anything with him on it that I could find. I can honestly say that with all confidence."
Best song to wake up to in the morning:
"Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies.
Best song to fall asleep to at night:
A Ribbon" by Devendra Banhart.
Best song to dance to:
"Shake That Thing" by Bearforce1. No one knows who they are. They're awesome, keep an eye out.
Best make-out song:
Oh my god, I don't know. I don't make out with people! But actually, I did make out with somebody once to "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" the cover, the Nirvana cover. And it was really dramatic.
Best song to mourn a breakup:
Any song is a breakup song when you're breaking up, isn't it? They all suck at that time. Maybe listen to some Blood Brothers and get really angry.
Best song to get ready to before going out:
"Heartbeat" by Annie.
Best song to listen to while getting ready for school:
I never went to school, so I wouldn't know how to get ready for school, though I used to listen to a lot of *NSync when I went to home school classes, but that was back when *NSync was awesome. But *NSync don't exist anymore. So maybe let's say Justin Timberlake. Let's say anything [by him] because he's awesome.
Best song to work out to:
"Disturbia" by Rihanna. It's got a good beat for running to.
Best driving song:
"Drive-In Saturday" by David Bowie.
Best song to slow dance to:
Well, my first slow dance was the Titanic song, "My Heart Will Go On." It's a good one.
Best song to roller-skate to:
Oh my god, I actually had a skating party for my 13th birthday, and there was Spice Girls playing a lot.
Best song to play while walking around New York City:
Some Joni Mitchell might create a nice mood.
Best song for a rainy day:
Maybe some Buffalo Tom.
Best song to listen to over and over again:
Oh boy. I can listen to "Straight out the Jungle" by Jungle Brothers maybe a million times in a row.
Best song on the Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist soundtrack:
Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo did the orchestral stuff. He wrote us an original Nick and Norah theme -- the last track on the CD -- and I love it. It's special because I know he wrote it about us!
PS -- in case all that wasn't enough, Kat had one more recommendation: "There's this guy Johnny Flynn that I'm listening to. He's pretty new, and he's great," she says. "I think he's going to be huge -- not like he's going to get fat, I think he's going to be huge, like famous."
